Palmdale City Library to Host Free Open Chess Play

PALMDALE – The Palmdale City Library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., is offering free open chess play for all ages on the first and third Saturday of each month at 10 am, beginning this Saturday, May 4. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including beginners. Chess sets are provided, as well as information on how to play the game. “Playing chess helps you learn patience, concentration and focus” said Library Associate Laura Jolls, “and it can even increase cognitive skills.” The next open chess play will take place on Saturday, May 18 at 10 am. This is event is made possible through the generous support of the Friends of the Palmdale City Library. The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.
