City of Palmdale to Host Presentation on Scams Aimed at Seniors

PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale’s neighborhood services department will host a presentation on avoiding identity theft and scams aimed at seniors on Wednesday, March 30 at 9:30 am at Legacy Commons for Active Seniors, located at 930 East Avenue Q-9.

The presentation is free and open to the public. Topics covered at this presentation will include how to prevent identity theft, how to recognize common scams aimed at seniors and how to minimize risk of becoming a victim.

“Have you received a call from someone stating they are from the IRS or a utility company demanding immediate payment?” asked Palmdale Crime Prevention Officer Kery German. “Or how about someone claiming to be a family member who urgently needs you to send them money? These are just a few of the many scams that we are currently hearing about.”

“Awareness is the most effective weapon against many scams,” added German. “This free presentation may prevent you, or someone you know, from becoming a victim and potentially losing thousands of dollars.”
