avdailynews.com

Lake Los Angeles - TheCenter@Wilsona by SBCC – Tuesday, September 17 Ludy, Erika and Shirley looked into the Community Closet to see what needed to be done and what needed to be attended to when a very special surprise occurred.

The Wilsona School Board of Trustees,

Superintendent Steve Doyle and Wilsona Elementary School Principal Joan Hammond came in person to tour The Community Closet and witness what else is happening with TheCenter@Wilsona by SBCC.

Erika explained the operation, how welcome and comfortable people felt when coming to The Closet to shop, how people felt cared about and how over 4,000 items were distributed to the ‘shoppers’ from Lake Los Angeles.

Shoppers means something else at this location. What is available for the choosing costs nothing. Each shopper makes an appointment to shop and can choose their items in privacy and without any need for money.

The Coset needs shopping bags, either cloth or disposal. Should you have shopping bags please donate them to The Closet.

Items at The Closet are Diapers, pajamas, shoes, boots, socks, books, Bombas new socks, clothing for babies, men, women and children, blankets and scarves hand crocheted by the folks with Crocheting for a Cause, pre-filled duffle bags for homeless and foster youth and the list goes on.

The contact information line is 661-200-5535.

The Closet is here to support Wilsona School District families and families of the surrounding communities. The purpose is to provide family and maternal support to all.

For those who would like to donate their gently used and clean clothing and shoes and hangers, etc., please make your appointment to deliver your contributions.

To access the Community Closet and enjoy a “shopping” experience, please make an appointment. An appointment is necessary. An appointment allows the family’s privacy and a full hour to select. Children must be present to ensure size, etc. are correct. Dressing rooms are available. All items are at no charge. An ID is mandatory for every family member not present.

The Closet is manned by volunteers. To inquire about how to volunteer call 661-200-5535.
