VSG Coffee with the Principal notes

Lake Los Angeles – On August 27, a Coffee with the Principal was held at Vista San Gabriel Elementary School at 9.00am in the multi-purpose room. Twenty-nine parents attended to enjoy a fruit and muffin snack with coffee and juice.

This coffee and conversation event was the first of more monthly events to be presented to the parents to keep lines of communication open and ensure information is shared with the VSG families. All conversations, questions and answers were interpreted in Spanish by Parent Liaison Ms. Elaine Egoavil-Clark.

Principal Daniel Soto opened with a background on his education and teaching experience before serving as interim principal to being hired as principal. He stated, “We all want achievers. We are all rooting for our kids. We all want to level the field for education.”

Principal Soto encouraged the parents to serve on the Site Council, the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) and/or the Parent Teach Organization (PTO).

Soto advised that each school is required by law to have a Site Council because the school receives Federal funds. It is important for parents to be involved and have a say in how those funds are spent. Parents can contact Principal Soto or the school Parent Liaison Ms. Elaine Egoavil-Clark at 661-264-1155.

The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is also required by law to be parental represented and their voices heard as it entails approval of Federal funds.

The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is more like a booster cub involved in fund raising and providing fun events for the Vista families.

Principal Soto said, “It is a good community. The Vista families are awesome. I want to do a good job for them.”
