PALMDALE, CA – Palmdale, it’s time to party like it’s 1776! Registration is open for the Stars, Stripes and Sneakers 5K, a fun run for all ages on Saturday, July 4, in recognition of America’s 250th birthday.

The event kicks off at 8 a.m. at Sam Yellen Park, located at 5100 East Ave. S, and features multiple events for runners of all skill levels. The main 5K event is open to participants 13 and older, while younger athletes can join the Red, White and ZOOM Fun Run series, which features a half-kilometer dash for kids 8 and younger and a one-kilometer course for those ages 9-12.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Palmdale families to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday in an active, healthy way,” said Mayor Eric Ohlsen. “Stars, Stripes and Sneakers is a fun way to kick-off Independence Day festivities and brings our community together in the spirit of patriotism and wellness. I’m grateful for our partnership with High Desert Runners for helping to make this event possible.”

There is an early bird special for those who sign up before June 1. Snag your spot in the 5K for just $20 or sign the kids up for the 1K Fun Run for only $10. After June 1, registration is $25 for the 5K and $15 for the 1K, so be sure to lock in those savings early! Participants receive a commemorative shirt and a race medal.

“Stars, Stripes and Sneakers represents another quality recreational activity for our community,” said Mayor Pro Tem Austin Bishop. “We’ve designed the event so everyone can participate, honor our nation’s founding and enjoy the wonderful park amenities that support our year-round programming.”
