There is a high school for you in Lake Los Angeles

Lake Los Angeles – Learn4Life Lake Los Angeles is located at 16921 East Avenue O where the County Clinic and Library are located, 170th Street East and East Avenue O. The school year starts July 1 and ends June 30 of each year. There is no fee for attending.

Learn4Life helps students succeed when the traditional high school model does not work for them. Many students have to work, some are teen parents, others have to care for family members and some just want to get away from the traditional school model. Whatever the reason, Learn4Life offers a tuition-free and innovative approach focused on personalized learning. The system helps to significantly reduce the dropout rate.

Learn4Life has an acronym, CARE: Culture, Academic Practice, Regional Alignment and Engagement.

Like everyone else, Learn4Life is treading new water. Community involvement is needed. It matters so much to all to be connected. Do our children believe they can have a future? We all have so much to restore after the Pandemic. There must be a way to meet the need to train tomorrow’s labor force for future jobs as well as today’s jobs.

LLA Learn4Life High School provides resources that many traditional sites might not be able to offer. There is a long list of resources for the school’s students and families. Learn4Life is willing and prepared to invest in Lake Los Angeles.

Mrs. Karen Aguirre, Assistant Principal said, “We are all coming out of this Pandemic. We have a huge push for wellness to bring to Lake Los Angeles. We have a social-emotional negative to overcome. That starts with the staff. We are aware of this to surmount. As we reflect on our own wellness, we have to consider our families and our associates. We need to set an example We intend to encompass the whole person.”

The teachers at Learn4Life have a one-on-one relationship with each student. Life skills, college and career planning, college readiness skills, English learning, opportunities for foster youth and homeless teens are part of what is being offered. Counseling services are on site and social workers are on call or on site. There is a long list of resources for the students and families. Lessons are built around the skills and talent and the needs of the individual student. Learn4Life works with the students’ schedules to encourage school completion.

Mrs. Aguirre conveyed, “Our students need more than a diploma. Our students are graduating, they are moving forward and we have given them hope. Students learn how to be responsible and active members of the school and their community population.”

One of the posters on the wall says “This is a learning zone. Mistakes are expected, respected, inspected and corrected.”
