The City of Palmdale Council opted to move forward with five districts and a rotating mayor.

Palmdale -The City of Palmdale Council Members opted to move forward with five districts and a rotating mayor, at their regular meeting on Wednesday March 16th, 2022.


Council members Loa, Carillo, Betancourt, Bishop motion to move forward with five districts and rotating Mayor, except for Mayor Hofbauer. The motion was passed with 4-1.


Community stakeholders, leaders and organizers from ALVA, CHIRLA, SALVA Dolores Huerta Foundation have been putting pressure on council members to accept the change, or face the consequences that can cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars in a new lawsuit.


“Tonight marks a new era for latinos and African American in Palmdale, The adoption of the 5 district with a with a rotating mayor we'll give a much needed representation to the Latino and the African American community As we United today with one voice And the council heard our request voting 4 to 1, With the current sitting mayor being the only one to vote against it, he will be known as the last voted sitting mayor in Palmdale. SI SE PUEDE!! EL PUEBLO HAS SPOKEN” said Ruth Sanchez a community activist from the Dolores Huerta Foundation and a Palmdale resident.


Maps from ALVA, Dolores Huerta Foundation and community had been presented in the past meetings.

“The people spoke tonight. At the end of the day, fair and equal representation took a big step forward for all and "incumbent gerrymandering" was laid to rest! Power to the people!” Said Marcos Alvarez a community activist


April 17th, 2022 is deadline to finalize the districts for the 2022 elections.
