The big white bus on its way,

Lake Los Angeles – Stephen Sorensen Community Regional Park – On Saturday morning October 4, 2025, at 0656 hours, these future leaders boarded the bus to take them to East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park for the 2025 Girls Empowerment Conference.

The conference is an annual event with Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation. The event is without cost to participants. Breakfast, lunch, snacks and pure enjoyment are provided. The day starts with the bus ride to the college for breakfast. The day is filled with hands-on activities and 15+ workshops. The day starts at 8:30 and ends at 3:30. There is so much packed into the day for the girls to treasure a lifetime.

Ms. Marinett Edmonds, LACP&R Recreation Service Leader, Our SPOT and Guadalupe Garcia, Recreation Service Leader, Our SPOT Sorensen Park LLA are escorts for the group.

The Well-Being Village is back. This vibrant hub invites girls to engage in hands-on self-care activities. Both the Well-Being Village and the Resource Fair Activation will provide various contributions from community and department partners, such as the Department of Mental Health, Los Angeles County Office of Violence Prevention, Department of Public Works, Soledad Enrichment Action and others. The goal is to provide engaging activities and resources that promote overall personal well-being, creativity, and community connection. It is a life changing experience. It brings out the voices the world needs to hear.

Girls, be the change, be the improvement and advancement of yourself and others. Your voice matters to yourself and to others who need your encouragement and leadership. Be representatives of your community and the leadership for the cause and the plan to promote your community connection.
