LLANO, Calif. — Firefighters are battling the Summit Fire, a fast-moving brush fire that broke out Friday afternoon near the Antelope Valley community of Llano as temperatures climbed into the mid-90s.

The fire was reported at approximately 12:50 p.m. near Jesus Canyon Road and East Avenue Z, close to the Los Angeles-San Bernardino county line. Fueled by hot, dry conditions and rugged terrain, the wildfire quickly spread, scorching more than 650 acres.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded with ground crews and aircraft shortly before 1 p.m. The Angeles National Forest also joined the firefighting effort, confirming it was assisting county firefighters as the blaze burned near the northeastern edge of Los Angeles County.

Photos from the scene show a massive column of smoke rising above the mountains, visible for miles across the Antelope Valley. The smoke plume could be seen from communities including Llano, Pearblossom, and surrounding desert areas.

Firefighters continue working to slow the fire’s spread while protecting nearby communities. As of Friday afternoon, officials had not released information on injuries, damaged structures, or the cause of the fire.

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Stay alert for evacuation warnings or orders.

  • Avoid the area to allow emergency crews access.

  • Keep windows closed if heavy smoke is present.

  • Monitor official updates as fire conditions can change rapidly.
