Palmdale, CA.- A small-town star named “Nico” Martinez-Galvez has made remarkable strides in the world of soccer.

Nicholas "Nico" Martinez-Galvez's story is one that brings a smile to the faces of those who know him. Nico's journey is a testament to hard work, family, and faith.

Originally from the historic town of León, Spain, Nico’s move to Antelope Valley at the tender age of 4 marked the beginning of a new life for him and his family. Even though his surroundings changed drastically, one aspect of his Spanish heritage remained passionately unchanged—his love for FC Barcelona and the sport of soccer. The game was more than a hobby; it was a way of life for him.

Living with his mother, Gabbie Galvez, and his older brother, Jose, life was not always easy. Despite the challenges of being a single-parent family, love and soccer brought them closer together. It was at the tender age of 7 that Nico first played soccer with AYSO, his talent evident from the start. His journey from AYSO to club soccer with Palmdale Thunder and AVFC Antelope Valley Futbol Club marked the beginning of something special.

For Nico, soccer was far more than a mere game; it was a testament to his unwavering pursuit of excellence. Demonstrating exceptional skill and commitment, he became a standout player on every team he joined, from the fields of Palmdale Aerospace Academy to the competitive environment of Pete Knight High School. He balanced his athletic pursuits with rigorous academic efforts, embodying the true spirit of a student-athlete.

His journey took an impressive turn when he joined Antelope Valley College's Men's Soccer Team. Not only did he excel on the soccer field, playing for the college team, but he also pursued his academic goals with the same level of dedication and intensity. This dual commitment underscores the breadth of Nico's aspirations and his relentless drive to achieve them.

The hard work and raw talent Nico displayed did not go unnoticed. Statistics show that competitive scholarships for junior college athletes transitioning to a four-year university can be scarce. Only 1% of junior college athletes receive scholarships to continue playing their sport at the next level in the United States, making Nico's story all the more exceptional. Simpson University in Redding, CA  has recognized his achievements on the field and in the classroom, awarding him a soccer scholarship to continue his education and athletic career as a sophomore transfer student.

Gabbie Galvez, Nico's mother, sums up his journey beautifully. "It takes a village to raise such a strong, focused, driven young man. I'd like to thank all of Nico’s coaches—Coach Martin Maguellal, Coach Barry Cobbs, and Coach Christian Vasquez—for nurturing his talent. To all the soccer families who supported us during our tournament travels, thank you. But my deepest gratitude goes to his older brother Jose, who stood by Nico like a pillar, stepping in during those father-son matches. And above all, I thank God for overseeing our journey, for blessing Nico with many talents, and for guiding him with love and support through every challenge and triumph."

Nico himself looks up with gratitude, "I owe everything to God. Through every high and low, His guidance has been my constant. To my family, friends, and coaches, your support has been my strength. This journey is ours to share."

Nico himself is a beacon of humility and thanks, always recognizing the hands that lifted him. Among those, he extends special appreciation to Paul Aghabala, founder of Prestige Law, who saw potential in Nico and sponsored him during his time at Antelope Valley College. This kindness aided Nico's athletic endeavors and instilled a deeper sense of community and belief in his ambitions.

Nico has a clear vision for his future: he aims to further his education at Simpson University.  He plans to develop his business skills and knowledge to transition smoothly into the world of finance. His ultimate ambition is to become a financial analyst, a role that will allow him to leverage his analytical skills and business acumen to make informed financial decisions for businesses or individuals. Congratulations Nico! You deserve it!!!

The story of Nicholas Martinez-Galvez is more than just about soccer. As he stands on the brink of a new chapter, Nico remains a humble student of life. His story, etched into the hearts of those who have supported him.
