Season of Service Volunteers Needed

PALMDALE – Join the City for several Season of Service volunteer opportunities in May, including Stamp Out Hunger and two community clean ups.

There are two ways to support the annualStamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Residents can participate by leaving their donation of nonperishable food items next to their mailbox on Saturday, May 13. Letter carriers will collect these food donations along their postal routes and donate them to South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES), Palmdale’s local food bank.

You can also volunteer to help SAVES collect and sort the donations on Saturday, May 13, from 3 – 5:30 pm. For details and to register visit:https://signup.com/go/DGhfPRP

Now in its 31st year, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) annualStamp Out Hunger national food drive helps feed millions of Americans. The Letter Carriers' food drive is held annually on the second Saturday in May in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam. Hunger affects 1 in 8 Americans, including millions of children, senior citizens, and veterans.

Residents are encouraged to volunteer on Saturday, May 20, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, to help us clean up Palmdale! To sign up and learn more, visithttps://signup.com/go/VmXBFrr

Desert Clean Up: Meet at 70th St. East and Avenue R. This activity is for volunteers older than 10 years of age.

Marie Kerr Park Beautification: 39700 30th St. West. Volunteers will conduct a variety of beautification projects at the park. This activity is open to volunteers of all ages.

For both activities, the City will provide masks, sunblock, and previously used work gloves. Please note that all volunteers under the age of 16 need to be accompanied by an adult. Dress in layers and wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Work boots or high-top sneakers are highly recommended; no open-toe shoes. Masks are recommended because of dust in the air during the clean-up. We recommend that volunteers pace themselves based on their physical ability.

For questions, call Community Programs Coordinator Patricia Morales at 661/267-5473.
