PALMDALE, Calif. — U.S. Army veteran and Palmdale School District Area 1 and current Board President Ralph Velador is seeking re-election, highlighting his military background, labor leadership, community involvement and commitment to expanding educational opportunities for local students.

Velador, who moved to Palmdale in 2001, says he has witnessed the community’s growth and challenges over the past 25 years. He believes his experience in public service and workforce development has prepared him to continue serving students and families.

During his military service, Velador worked as an aircraft electrician on Apache helicopters, an experience he says shaped his understanding of teamwork and accountability.

“Every single wire, every single connection matters to the success of the mission,” Velador said, comparing his military experience to the importance of teachers, school employees, parents and students working together.

Beyond his military service, Velador serves on the American Legion National Security Council, as Area 6, District 20 Vice Commander, and as Commander of American Legion Post 348 in Palmdale.

He also highlighted his involvement in establishing a new American Legion veterans community hub on 10th Street East, which provides assistance to veterans with disability-related issues and placement services.

Velador is a 34-year member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 300. He has worked in the union’s organizing department for 26 years, including 13 years as a coordinator, advocating for workers and their families.

His involvement in local government began in 2012 when he was appointed to the Palmdale Planning Commission, where he served as chairman for three years.

In 2017, Velador was appointed to the Palmdale School District Board of Trustees.

During his tenure, Velador says the district has expanded parent centers, free meal programs, STEAM education, dual-language instruction and Career Technical Education (CTE) opportunities.

A central focus of his re-election campaign is preparing students for careers after graduation, whether they pursue higher education, skilled trades or employment in the Antelope Valley’s aerospace industry.

Velador specifically pointed to opportunities at Lockheed Martin and other local employers as examples of career pathways students should be prepared to pursue.

“Whether a student chooses college, enters the trades, or stays right here in Antelope Valley to build the next generation of aircraft at Lockheed Martin, they deserve to graduate ready for a high-paying career,” Velador said.

As he seeks another term, Velador says his priorities remain focused on strengthening educational programs, supporting families and ensuring students have the resources and career opportunities needed to succeed.

He concluded his campaign message by encouraging voters to continue supporting his leadership.
