CHP essential tips to keep you safe on the roads:

1. Slow Down: Wet roads can be slippery. Reduce your speed and allow extra time to reach your destination.

2. Increase Following Distance: Maintain a greater distance from the vehicle in front of you. This will give you more time to react if the car ahead suddenly stops.

3. Use Headlights: Turn on your headlights during rain to improve visibility for yourself and other drivers. Make sure your taillights are also lit to help others see you.

4. Avoid Puddles and Flooding: Avoid large puddles and flooding, which can hide hazards or cause hydroplaning. If you can't avoid them, slow down before you pass through.

5. Stay Updated: Monitor weather alerts and traffic updates. Adjust your route if necessary to avoid flooded areas or road closures.

6. Avoid Distractions: Stay focused on the road. Put away your phone and minimize distractions to remain attentive while driving.
