Palmdale, CA – Palmdale Water District (PWD) is partnering with the

American Red Cross on a Valentine’s Day-themed blood drive from 9 a.m. to

3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at PWD, 2029 East Avenue Q in Palmdale.

PWD is encouraging its staff and community members to participate

and help replenish the Red Cross’ blood supply, which provides all the blood

used at Antelope Valley’s two hospitals. With Valentine’s Day in mind,

people are being asked to “Don’t go breaking hearts…keep them beating.

Give blood. Give Love.”

The Red Cross’ blood shortage has become more critical due to the

winter storms on the East Coast, where more than 20,000 donations were

unable to be collected.

“We are hoping that people will give 35 minutes of their day to save

a life by donating blood,” said Bob Woodall, American Red Cross Account

Manager II Biomedical Services for Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys. “And it’s only seven to

eight minutes with a needle in the arm. Donors also live better and longer when they donate

regularly.”

Registration is encouraged, but walk-ins on Feb. 12 are welcome. To schedule an

appointment, visit www.redcrossblood.org and use the code “palmdalewater.” Donors can

save up to 15 minutes on the day of the appointment by visiting

www.RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass to complete a pre-donation reading and health history

questionnaire. The Red Cross is offering free mini-physicals and $20 electronic gift cards to all

donors.

“PWD appreciates the American Red Cross giving us the opportunity to host such an

important event,” said PWD Public Affairs Specialist Michelle Trejo, who coordinates the blood

drive. “Having it at our main office makes it easy for our staff and neighbors to donate.

Knowing that one donor can save three lives, we look forward to making a significant impact

with this blood drive.”
