Palmdale, CA – Palmdale Water District (PWD) customers who are eligible for the annual Rate Assistance Program (RAP) may now submit their applications.

The program provides a $25 credit on the monthly service fee. RAP is open to eligible senior citizens ages 62 and older, veterans of

any age, and low-income families who need assistance with their water bills.

Interested customers must provide proof of income and be enrolled in the

California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) program with Southern

California Edison or Southern California Gas Co. The program is limited, due

to available funding, to the first 700 customers who apply and are approved.

Program participants must reapply each year.

“The Rate Assistance Program is extremely popular and will fill up

fast,” said PWD Customer Care Supervisor Tara Rosati. “Applications with all the required documents need to be submitted as early as possible because of high

demand. We encourage customers to apply online.”

Last year, the PWD Board of Directors raised the budget for RAP from $170,000 to

$210,000, expanding the available spots to 700 customers. The Board also increased the

discount from $20 to $25 to offer greater assistance to individuals.

State law prohibits PWD from funding this program with operating revenue from

customers. Therefore, the Board of Directors has funded RAP using non-operating revenues

from leasing PWD properties, including mobile phone companies for cell towers.

Applications for RAP can be completed on PWD’s website in English at

https://bit.ly/2027RAP and in Spanish at https://bit.ly/ESP2027RAP. For more information or

assistance, please call the Customer Care Department at 661-947-4111.
