Lancaster, CA.- The Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve is coming up on the celebration of 50 years of being a State Park in 2026.
In order to celebrate, we are asking for YOUR help. The Poppy Reserve would like to showcase local student artists in the outdoor interpretive panels in the picnic area from March 1st, 2026- May 31, 2026. This is open to all schools in the Antelope Valley, Lancaster and Palmdale areas.
Art will be showcased at the park from March-May. Because of the harsh outside conditions of the Antelope Valley, all art pieces will be submitted digitally and printed on 8.5 x11 printer paper so the student can keep the original piece from damage. Email AntelopeValley@ports-ca.us for additional details and how to submit art.
Jane Pinheiro was a renowned art who spearheaded the movement to create the Poppy Reserve and many other parks in the area including Saddleback Butte State Park. She was a self-taught artist and botanist who took great pride in the accuracy of her paintings. Pinheiro was instrumental in establishing at least eight wildflower and wildlife sanctuaries in the Antelope Valley, ranging in size from 100 to 455 acres. It is fitting that the Poppy Reserve continue to foster artistic talent.
