Lake Los Angeles – Spring Parks After Dark at Stephen Sorensen Community Regional Park saw Ms. Olivia Miseroy and her team bring information and fun to the community. Spring Parks After Dark was held Thursday March 27 and Saturday March 29 from 6:00-m to 9:00pm.

Wildlife that our community and especially children need to be educated about, help preserve, and support was brought to the park for everyone to enjoy and learn what is right here in our own backyard.

Olivia is our Regional Park Superintendent I, Wildlife and Wildflower Sanctuaries, County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation - Natural Areas Division. She now has a base office at our park here in LLA. This office of the Wildlife and Wildflower Sanctuaries is dedicated to continuously promoting the Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights activities in the community.

At the park it was called ‘Nature Night’ intended to learn about local plants and animals, meet animal ambassadors, plus crafts and games.

Native seeds were given out to people to plant that are native to the area and promotes support for wildlife. The seeds are native to Tameobit, which is a Parks & Recreation Sanctuary, a delicate and important ecosystem in our community and which property lines are contiguous with our Park’s property lines.

By choosing native plants for your landscaping, you are not only helping wildlife, but you are creating a healthier place for people ... you and me and our children. They require little water, and no pesticides or chemicals associated with commercial plants exist in native gardens.

Restoring native plant habitat is vital to preserving delicate and vital biodiversity. Native plants are those that occur naturally in a region in which they evolved. They are the ecological basis upon which life depends, including birds. Without them and the insects that co-evolved with them, local birds cannot survive.

With Tameobit being managed by P&R, the area will see the return of birds and other creatures. Many birds and other creatures that were here at one time can be brought back with proper management.
