Palmdale, Ca.- Palmdale Sheriff’s Station would like to remind our community that recent flooding has significantly changed the landscape of local roads, and more rain is expected over the next few days. Roads that look familiar may no longer be safe. Please plan your routes accordingly.
Do NOT drive through flooded roadways or around barricades or road closures — no matter how shallow it looks. Our deputies are out enforcing these closures. Between 12/28- 12/29 we cited 122 drivers for not obeying them.
Floodwater can hide washed-out pavement, deep ruts, debris, or sudden drop-offs. Many roads remain closed for safety reasons. If you encounter a flooded roadway or closure, TURN AROUND and find a safe route.
Before you head out, check current road closures: https://pw.lacounty.gov/roadclosures/
If you must drive in the rain:
• Slow down and allow extra travel time
• Turn on your headlights — day or night
• Increase your following distance
• Avoid sudden braking
• Always wear your seatbelt and stay off your phone
