PALMDALE, CA – The City of Palmdale invites Southern California artists to submit sculptures for the Amargosa Creek Trail Enhancement Project. This new initiative will bring rotating public art installations to one of the City’s most treasured natural spaces. Four original sculptures will be displayed along the 50-acre nature trail for three years, with new artwork rotating in afterward to keep the cultural experience fresh and engaging.

Each of the four selected artists will receive an all-inclusive budget of up to $10,000 to cover their fee, expenses, transportation and removal after three years. Artists must provide insurance and obtain a Palmdale business license. The City will hire a contractor to manage unloading and installation, and deliveries must be Free on Board.

“We’re building something dynamic that evolves with our community,” said Mayor Eric Ohlsen. “The trail already serves a critical environmental function by recharging our groundwater basin, and now we’re layering in art, fitness amenities and education features that make it a true community asset. By rotating new sculptures through the Creek Trail, we’re creating a destination that keeps drawing residents back while supporting working artists in our region. This initiative advances our sustainability and economic development goals while investing in Palmdale’s long-term viability.”

The City is seeking Southern California artists who have demonstrated consistent quality in the past and have a history of collaboration. Artists must be 18 years old and submit images of original, family-friendly sculptures that are already fabricated and ready for installation.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the incredible talent in our region while enriching the experience of everyone who enjoys this beautiful trail,” said Mayor Pro Tem Austin Bishop. “We’re working hard to make Palmdale a great place to call home by celebrating local artistry in our outdoor spaces.”

Applications are due Friday, July 10. For full application guidelines and submission details or to learn more about Palmdale’s Public Art program, visit www.CityOfPalmdaleCA.gov/PublicArt.

About the Amargosa Creek Trail

The Amargosa Creek Trail serves dual purposes for Palmdale by recharging the City’s groundwater basin while providing residents and visitors with passive recreational space. The trail’s habitat preserves century-old Joshua and juniper trees and includes paths with plant identification cards and interpretive storyboards. Through the Enhancement Project, the trail now offers defined trailheads, seating areas, educational signage, fitness equipment and bicycle repair stations.
