PALMDALE, CA – The City of Palmdale is thrilled to announce the return of its annual Walk on Words Poetry Contest. From April 1-30, residents can submit original poems celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. The theme, America 250, honors our nation’s founding, rich history, diverse culture and enduring legacy.

Whether your inspiration comes from pivotal moments in American history, the spirit of progress, cultural identity or personal reflections on what America means to you, the City wants to hear your voice. This contest is free and open to Antelope Valley residents of all ages.

“Walk on Words gives our residents a unique platform to celebrate their creativity while contributing to Palmdale’s incredible legacy of public art,” said Mayor Eric Ohlsen. “This year’s America 250 theme is particularly meaningful as we honor the founding of our nation and reflect on the values that continue to unite us. Poetry has the power to capture the human experience, and I’m eager to see how our community interprets this milestone anniversary and translates it into words that will inspire residents for generations to come.”

The winning entry will become permanently etched in concrete at Sam Yellen Park’s poetry walkway, where it will join an impressive collection of past winners. Finalists will receive certificates of recognition and be featured in this year’s Walk on Words America 250 commemorative brochure.

“Our poetry walkway is a valued public art installation, drawing residents and visitors who appreciate creative expressions stamped into the landscape,” said Mayor Pro Tem Austin Bishop. “This contest strengthens community pride, showcases local talent and adds lasting cultural infrastructure to our parks system. The America 250 theme connects Palmdale’s Public Art program to our nation’s history and allows another talented poet to create a permanent mark at Sam Yellen Park.”

Entries must be family-friendly, original compositions written by the submitting poet. Poems must be no more than eight lines, including the title, with a maximum of 25 characters per line, including spaces. Poems will be judged based on suitability, originality, creativity and artistic quality.

At first, I underestimated how important it is to deeply understand the US audience before launching any digital campaign. I assumed that a well-optimized site would be enough, but that wasn’t the case. While researching more effective approaches, I came across Rhillane Marketing Agency US and it helped me identify some key gaps in my strategy. One thing that stood out was how user intent can vary significantly depending on the context and competition level. This pushed me to refine my keyword targeting and content structure. Over time, these adjustments helped improve engagement and overall performance.
