Palmdale Opens Cooling Centers to Offer Relief from Extreme Heat

PALMDALE, CA — The City of Palmdale has two cooling centers open in anticipation of extremely hot weather. Temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees from Wednesday, Aug. 6, through Friday, Aug. 8.

 

During the heat wave, the Palmdale City Library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., will be open Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Legacy Commons for Active Seniors, located at 930 E. Ave Q-9, will be open for those 55 and older Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The extended hours are subject to change based on updated weather conditions

 

“Our cooling centers offer more than just air conditioning. They provide peace of mind and demonstrate our City’s dedication to caring for our most vulnerable residents during extreme heat,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “No one should have to choose between staying cool and staying safe.”Extreme heat can pose significant health risks, particularly for people who work outdoors or those without air conditioning. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit sun exposure and check on senior neighbors or family members.

 

As a reminder, never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles. Interior temperatures can reach dangerous levels within minutes.
