PALMDALE, CA — The City of Palmdale is proactively opening two cooling centers to offer residents a relief option in anticipation of extremely hot weather. Temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees from Wednesday, July 9, through Tuesday, July 15.

During the heat wave, Palmdale City Library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd. will open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Legacy Commons for Active Seniors, located at 930 E. Ave Q-9, will open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The extended hours are subject to change based on updated weather conditions.

“We’re taking extra steps to ensure our residents have access to safe, cool places during the anticipated heat wave,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “Our cooling centers provide essential relief, particularly for our City’s most vulnerable residents.”

Extreme heat can pose significant health risks, especially to people who work outdoors or those without air conditioning. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit sun exposure and check on senior neighbors or family members.

As a reminder, never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles. Interior temperatures can reach dangerous levels within minutes.

For more information about extreme heat safety and cooling center locations, residents can visit www.CityOfPalmdaleCA.gov/ExtremeHeator Ready.LACounty.gov/Heat.
