PALMDALE, CA — The City of Palmdale is hosting its Field of Honor display, beginning with an opening ceremony on Wednesday, May 21 at 10 a.m. at Pelona Vista Park South Field, 37720 Tierra Subida Ave.
The ceremony will begin with a warm welcome by Mayor Richard J. Loa and members of the City Council, followed by a special program featuring local veterans’ charities that benefit from donations made during this special, six-day tribute.
“This tradition gives our City a place to connect and honor our nation’s heroes,” said Mayor Richard J. Loa. “This year, we’ve added thin blue and red line flags to also recognize the courage of our brave first responders. I invite everyone to attend and reflect on their legacies.”
The event will feature solemn tributes to those who never made it home and speeches from the eight local veterans’ charities that benefit from Field of Honor flag donations, including:
· American Legion Post 348
· Antelope Valley Veterans Community Action Coalition
· AV Boots on the Grounds Alliance
· Coffee4Vets, Inc
· Point Man Antelope Valley
· Vets 4 Veterans
· VFW Post 3000
· VFW Post 3552
“Field of Honor not only honors those who put their lives on the line for ours but also supports the vital work of our local veterans’ organizations,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “These groups provide essential services year-round, and events like this raise awareness about their mission.”
Each of the 1,000 flags on display tells the story of those who, through their dedicated service, became our nation’s heroes. Flags will remain on display through Memorial Day, with the public welcome to pay their respects to our nation’s veterans daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
