Palmdale Extends Cooling Center Hours Amid Excessive Heat Wave


PALMDALE, CA – In response to excessive heat in Palmdale, the City is extending cooling center hours of operation to provide relief for residents. Temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees through Thursday, July 25.

 

The Victory Outreach Community Resource Center, located at 37419 25th St. East, will serve as a cooling center from Tuesday, July 23 through Thursday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Transportation assistance to the Victory Outreach location is available by calling 661/733-3823.

 

The Palmdale City Library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Thursday, July 25. The Library welcomes people of all ages.

 

Lastly, Legacy Commons for Active Seniors, located at 930 E. Ave. Q-9, will be available for those who are 55 and older during regular business hours, through Thursday, July 25, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

The City urges residents to take precautions during this extreme heat event. It is important to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces, avoid sun exposure and check on vulnerable relatives and neighbors. Residents are reminded to never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes during hot weather.
