PALMDALE, CA — In light of the recent tragic fires in Los Angeles County, the City of Palmdale urges all residents to sign up for its Alert Palmdale emergency notification system. This critical service ensures everyone stays informed and safe during disaster events, quickly providing critical information in a variety of situations, like earthquakes, wildfires, severe weather and more.

“Alert Palmdale is a vital tool for ensuring our community stays safe and informed,” said Mayor Richard J. Loa. “As we face threats of wildfires and other emergencies, it is extremely important that all residents sign up for this free service to receive immediate alerts on evacuation notices, safety information and more.”

This web-based application allows authorized public safety officials to quickly disperse vital information during emergencies. It uses “reverse 911” technology, which delivers timely alerts directly via phone, email and text messages.

“We are committed to keeping you informed, especially during times of crisis,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “Signing up for our emergency alert system is a simple but crucial step to keeping your family prepared.”

To receive these important notifications, residents are urged to sign upat www.CityOfPalmdaleCA.gov/EmergencyAlertSignUp. All personal data provided is kept strictly confidential and is used solely for emergency alerts. Individuals can also sign up by downloading the Smart911 app totheir smartphone.

With wildfires and extreme weather conditions affecting the region, disaster preparedness has never been more important. Here are four tips to ensure families are kept safe:

Have a plan: Identify meeting places for your family; know your evacuation routes; learn how to shut off water, gas and electricity; schedule annual disaster drills and practice your family’s emergency plan.

Keep supplies: Have a disaster supply kit on hand with the essential basics needed to survive.

Stay informed: Learn about sources of official emergency information, such as Alert Palmdale, to receive critical information from officials before, during, and after an emergency or disaster.

Get involved: In major disasters, more than nine of every 10 victims are rescued by neighbors, not professional responders. Neighbors will need the assistance that you and others in your community can quickly provide.
