PALMDALE, CA — On Tuesday, Oct. 21, the Palmdale City Council unanimously approved a dual naming of a portion of Avenue Q to Deputy Clinkunbroomer Avenue (Avenue Q), commemorating Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer, who was murdered in the line of duty. The dual naming applies to the corridor from Sierra Highway to 40th Street East. During the meeting, City leaders presented Deputy Clinkunbroomer’s family with a ceremonial street sign in his honor.
“The dual naming of this street will stand as a permanent reminder of Deputy Clinkunbroomer’s courage, service and sacrifice,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “Seeing his name on this avenue will remind everyone who passes by to honor his memory and the values that make our community strong.”
The section of Avenue Q between Sierra Highway and 40th Street East marks the northern boundary of Deputy Clinkunbroomer’s patrol area and the site of the ambush. Palmdale Public Works staff will notify stakeholders and install the commemorative signage in the coming months.
Deputy Clinkunbroomer served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for eight years and was a third-generation member of the agency. On Sept. 16, 2023, Clinkunbroomer was ambushed with unprovoked gunfire when another vehicle pulled alongside his patrol unit and began shooting. He is survived by his fiancée, parents and grandparents.
Deputy Clinkunbroomer served the community with distinction. His commitment to public safety and his example of service will continue to inspire current and future generations in Palmdale.
