PALMDALE, CA — The City of Palmdale is launching a comprehensive, real-time translation service for all City Council meetings, ensuring that non-English speaking residents can fully participate in local government decisions that impact their daily lives.

Starting Oct. 7, residents attending city council meetings in person will have access to live translations, while virtual attendees will have access to closed captioning. Both options will be available in more than 60 languages through personal smartphones or tablets by scanning a QR code located in the Council Chamber or using a link on the City’s website. The innovative Wordly platform does not require registration, downloads or special equipment.

“This service removes language barriers and strengthens civic participation for every Palmdale resident,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “When we ensure that everyone can understand and engage with their local government, we build a stronger, more unified City.”

With nearly half of all households in Palmdale reporting that they speak Spanish at home, this translation service fills a critical gap in civic accessibility by allowing residents to address the Council in their preferred language.
