Palmdale Announces New Parking Restrictions and Street Sweeping Enforcement.

PALMDALE, CA – The City of Palmdale is pleased to announce the selection of a vendor for street sweeping enforcement signage, marking a significant step toward enhancing the sanitary conditions of our streets. This announcement comes as part of the City’s ongoing efforts to improve community infrastructure and promote a cleaner environment.

“Street sweeping enforcement is essential for the overall cleanliness and safety of our City,” said Mayor Austin Bishop. “By adopting these measures, which will now require residents to move their cars on street sweeping days, we are taking proactive steps to mitigate potential risks of flooding caused by accumulation of debris and other vegetation and to improve the quality of life for our community.”

At the City Council meeting on Feb. 21, the City awarded a construction agreement with Square Signs, LLC, for “no parking during street sweeping” signs to be installed. Beginning immediately, the project is expected to span 100 business days. Installation will occur Monday through Friday, with an anticipated completion in September.

The vendor selection follows the introduction and adoption of Ordinance No. 1615 by the City Council in November 2023, which introduced parking restrictions to facilitate street sweeping.

“Street sweeping is a preventative measure, as we seek to reduce the risk of blocked gutters, flooding and hazardous conditions associated with uncollected debris or green waste,” said Mayor Pro Tem Richard J. Loa. “Having cars off the roads for street sweeping is vital for maintaining functional storm drains and protecting the environment and wildlife in our community.”

Street sweeping will follow WM’s trash collection schedules and will be done twice a month on the first business day after a scheduled trash pickup. To view the street sweeping schedule and find your zone, visit CityofPalmdaleCA.gov/StreetSweeping.

To ensure a smooth transition, City staff will conduct outreach efforts to educate the community about the new street sweeping rules. Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the street sweeping regulations and PMC §12.36 (Ordinance No. 1615) at https://bit.ly/3TX19JR to avoid inconvenience once enforcement begins. More details will be released in the near future.

For any additional street sweeping issues or concerns, residents are urged to contact WM at 661/947-7197.
