avdailynews.com

PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale and WM will host their first joint solid waste workshop on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at Legacy Commons, 930 East Avenue Q-9

Participants will learn about the recent solid waste changes required by Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383), what residents must do to comply, and how to prepare for upcoming enforcement. Waste experts will be on hand to answer questions regarding solid waste, organics and recycling. Kitchen counter food pails will be distributed to Palmdale residents who attend.

What is SB 1383?

The California State Legislature passed SB 1383, which requires cities and counties to reduce organic waste disposal by 75% by 2025 and rescue for people to eat at least 20% of currently disposed surplus food by 2025. The goal of SB 1383 is to reduce organic materials going to landfills, decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and slow climate change.

Registration is requested but not required at www.cityofpalmdaleca.gov/sb1383Form. For questions, contact the Innovation and Environmental division at envirotech@cityofpalmdale.org or 661/267-5300.
