Palmdale, Calif. — As Independence Day approaches, county and local officials are reminding residents that fireworks remain a serious fire danger, especially as communities continue recovering from recent wildfires.
Kathryn Barger is urging residents to leave fireworks to the professionals following the devastating Eaton Fire, which left thousands of families rebuilding their lives.
“We’ve seen firsthand what one spark can do,” Barger said. “Families across Altadena are still rebuilding, yet a single firework—even the ‘safe and sane’ kind—could put another neighborhood at risk. Enjoy the holiday, but leave the fireworks to the professional shows happening across the county.”
All fireworks remain illegal in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County and in many cities throughout the region. Violators can face fines of up to $1,000, while possession of dangerous fireworks under California law may result in penalties ranging from $500 to more than $50,000, depending on the amount of fireworks involved.

Fireworks are dangerous and illegal, but noise alone is not a 911 emergency. 🚨DO NOT CALL 911 FOR FIREWORKS NOISE COMPLAINTS.🚨
Please help us keep emergency lines open for life-threatening emergencies, serious injuries, active fires, and immediate threats to life or property. For non-emergency fireworks concerns, please be patient with our call takers or consider filing a general report online at LASD.ORG/SORTS.

Residents are encouraged to report illegal fireworks by calling the Fireworks Hotline at (661) 723-6132. Officials ask callers to provide the address or exact location where fireworks are being used.
“Together, we can help prevent fires, injuries and disturbances this holiday,” the department said in its public safety message.
Palmdale Reminds Residents to Know the Rules
Meanwhile, the City of Palmdale is reminding residents that Safe & Sane fireworks are legal only within designated areas of the city and only during the permitted period, from 12 p.m. on June 28 through 12 p.m. on July 5.
However, city officials emphasize that not all neighborhoods are eligible. Several areas are designated as No Fireworks Zones, where even Safe & Sane fireworks are prohibited due to increased wildfire risk and public safety concerns.
Residents can determine whether they live in a prohibited area by visiting:
City officials encourage residents to “Play it smart. Know the law. Respect your neighbors.”
Celebrate Safely
The Los Angeles County Fire Department encourages residents to celebrate Independence Day by attending one of the many professionally organized fireworks displays taking place across the county in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Residents can also obtain information about approved public displays by calling the Los Angeles County Fireworks Hotline at (888) 654-FIRE (3473).
With Southern California entering the height of wildfire season, officials throughout Los Angeles County agree that the safest way to celebrate is to leave fireworks to licensed professionals.
“Our communities have already experienced the devastating impact of wildfire,” officials said. “By following the law and celebrating responsibly, everyone can help protect lives, homes, first responders, and our neighborhoods this Fourth of July.”
