New Parking Restrictions on Mountain Roads to Improve Safety

avdailynews.com

Palmdale, Ca.- Starting January 27, 2025, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Antelope Valley will enforce new parking regulations on mountain roads in Los Angeles Countyto improve safety and maintain traffic flow. These changes, made possible with the support of Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s office, aim to prevent issues caused by vehicles blocking roadways, which impact residents, emergency personnel, and overall public safety.

In previous winters, blocked roadways have delayed emergency responses and created unsafe conditions for residents and visitors alike.

Key updates include:

1. No Curb Required: The new rules apply even on roads without curbs, such as rural and mountain highways. Parking that blocks traffic is not allowed, even if there’s no curb present.

2. 12 Feet Clearance: Vehicles must leave at least 12 feet of clear space on the road for other cars, including emergency vehicles, to pass safely.

3. Stay Within Edge Lines: Do not park in a way that your vehicle crosses or extends beyond the white edge lines on marked roads. Blocking beyond these lines is considered illegal and creates safety hazards.

4. $150 Fine: Parking violations under these rules will result in a $150 fine. This higher fine is designed to prevent people from using roadside parking as a cheaper alternative near resorts or other attractions.

These regulations are essential to ensuring clear roads and safe access for all. For more information, contact CHP Antelope Valley at (661) 743-6060
