Lancaster, CA.- On July 2, 2025, at approximately 11:15 AM, Antelope Valley Area officers responded to investigate a traffic crash involving an overturned Kern County Transit Bus with approximately 25-30 passengers on board.

The bus was traveling northbound in on Sierra Highway, south of Avenue C. Internal video confirmed an object pierced the windshield and struck the driver, which appeared to render the drive unconscious.

The bus veered off the east road edge onto a descending dirt embankment and collided with the Union Pacific railroad tracks before overturning on its left side.

The bus driver sustained major, non-life threating injuries. California Highway Patrol officers, along with personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and American Medical Response, assisted the passengers off the bus. Injuries ranged from minor to major, and approximately 15 passengers were transported to one of four local hospitals: Antelope Valley Medical Center, Palmdale Regional Medical Center, Northridge Hospital Medical Center, or Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. Other passengers either self-transported or declined medical treatment.

Union Pacific repaired approximately 150 feet of track from the collision. Sierra Highway was closed in both directions between Avenue C and Avenue D for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation.

Antelope Valley Area officers continue to work with Kern County Transit to view additional onboard, outward facing cameras to determine the origin of the object.
