Millions of Californians to receive credits on their electricity bills in 2026

Palmdale, CA.- In August and September millions of California residents will see two California Climate Credits automatically applied to their electricity bill.

Residential customers of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), San Diego Gas & Electric (SD&E) and Southern California Edison (SCE) will each receive the credits, which stem from the state's Cap-and-Trade Program.

This year, each of the residential utility bills you and millions of other households across the state receive in August and September will contain a $36.00 California Climate Credit per service account.

The California Climate Credit is a direct result of the State’s nation-leading Cap-and-Invest Program, which requires polluters to pay for emissions that create and accelerate climate change. California’s Cap-and-Invest program incentivizes polluters to reduce emissions by requiring them to pay for those emissions. The state allows the utilities to use that revenue to offset the increased energy costs utility customers may experience as the state transitions to a more sustainable and lower-carbon future.
