Movie theaters in LA County could reopen at limited capacity as soon as Saturday, CA Gov. Newsom said at a press conference on Wednesday.

LA County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said earlier this week that it will take 48 hours after the state announces the vaccination threshold is met for the county to officially move into the red tier. If the goal is met by Friday, as Newsom announced, the county would advance by Sunday.

Moving from the restrictive “purple” tier into the red tier will authorize the county to increase capacity limits at retail establishments and reopen theme parks, indoor dining, fitness centers and movie theaters. Disneyland and other California theme parks could reopen as soon as April 1st

Movie theaters in other parts of the US have already begun reopening as vaccines protecting against COVID have begun to roll out. New York City, for instance, reopened theaters last week at 25% capacity.
