Palmdale, CA.- The Homeowners’ Exemption reduces the taxable value of your home, resulting in savings on your property tax bill year after year. While the annual savings may seem modest, they add up over time and provide meaningful, long-term relief for homeowners.

This exemption is especially important under Proposition 19, which allows eligible homeowners to pass their home and its existing tax base to their children. Claiming the Homeowners’ Exemption helps ensure your property records are accurate and your family is properly protected.

If you own and occupy your home as your principal residence and have not yet applied, I strongly urge you to act now. Missing the deadline could mean losing this benefit for the current tax year.

Have you already claimed the exemption?

You can quickly check by visiting the Assessor’s Property Search portal at: assessor.lacounty.gov/homeowners/property-search

Search by your property’s Assessor Identification Number (AIN) or address. In the results summary:

* If the exemption is already applied, you will see “Homeowners” listed under exemptions.

* If no exemption is on file, it will note “None.”

If you have not yet claimed the exemption, you may submit a Homeowners’ Property Tax Exemption Claim by mail or online.

Please follow all instructions carefully, as supporting documentation may be required. Step-by-step e-file instructions are available here: assessor.lacounty.gov/exemptions/homeowner-exemption
