PALMDALE – Palmdale City Councilmember Elect Andrea Alarconsecured an anonymous donation of 800 jackets to distribute to the unhoused and families in need. Coat distribution will occur throughout December at various community events in partnership with the Dolores Huerta Foundation.

“I am eager to hit the ground running because meeting the needs of all in our community is my priority – the unhoused included,” said Councilmember Elect Alarcon.

“There are so many in our city who are struggling to survive this winter. Providing a jacket is the least we can do to help them. I hope these coats offer a warm added layer for those forced to endure the freezing desert temperatures,” Alarcon added.

Distribution began on Sunday, Dec. 11 where volunteers worked through rain, hail, and 35-degree weather to offer a warm, home-cooked meal and jackets to over 300 unhoused individuals.

Additional distribution will occur at a Christmas Posada hosted by SALVA on Saturday, Dec. 17, from 10 am to 1 pm, and an upcoming Dolores Huerta Foundation gift giveaway and food distribution on Sunday, Dec. 18, from 11 am to 2 pm. Pre-registration is required for the Dec. 18 gift giveaway and has already hit capacity.

The recently elected Palmdale City Councilmembers, includingAndrea Alarcon, will be sworn in at the next council meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
