IRS pushes filing deadline to May 17th, 2021.

The Internal Revenue Service announced on Wednesday it is postponing the country’s tax-filing deadline until May 17th, 2021.

There has been growing bipartisan support to extend the deadline. Lawmakers, led by Pascrell along with Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Republican Sen. Mike Crapo of Idaho, had urged the move, citing the pandemic.

Who does the delay apply to?

The delay applies to individuals filing Forms 1040 and 1040-SR. It doesn’t affect deadlines for corporate, partnership or nonprofit tax returns.

The IRS continued to encourage taxpayers to consider filing as soon as possible, especially those who are owed income tax refunds.
