PALMDALE, CA — The City of Palmdale invites residents to take home free, nutrient-rich compost to prepare their gardens for winter planting or set the stage for a thriving spring bloom. This free community resource is available while supplies last on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Palmdale Landfill, located at 1200 City Ranch Road.

This high-quality compost was produced using yard waste and food scraps collected from Palmdale residents through the City’s recycling program. By transforming what was once destined for the landfill into valuable soil, the City, in partnership with WM, is helping residents to grow healthier gardens while supporting sustainability.

“This is a perfect example of how we’re closing the loop on waste and turning it into something beneficial for our City,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “Our residents contribute their organic waste throughout the year, and now they can take home the finished product to enrich their own gardens. Whether you have a green thumb or are just getting started, quality compost makes all the difference in creating a healthy, productive garden.”

This event is open exclusively to Palmdale residents who live within the City limits. Participants must bring their own shovels, containers or bags to transport the compost home.

The City continues to urge all residents to do their part to support the compost program by placing their organic waste into their green bins. Diverting this material from the landfill helps reduce methane emissions and creates a sustainable resource for the community. Once collected, the composting process takes several months and produces a dark, crumbly soil rich in nutrients that helps plants thrive and improves soil health.
