Free trash disposal event Saturday May 11 in Lake LA

Lake Los Angeles, CA.-A free disposal day is scheduled at the Los Angeles County Public Works road yard in Lake Los Angeles for unincorporated county residents.

The event will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at the county road yard at 17341 East Ave. J in Lake Los Angeles.

Residents of unincorporated areas can dispose of green waste, trash and bulky items like furniture. The events will not accept electronics, business waste, hazardous materials like used motor oil and paint, tires and demolition debris.

The Lake Los Angeles event and a May 4 event at the Littlerock road yard are pilot programs sponsored by the Antelope Valley Illegal Dumping Task Force and Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger. Her office is trying out the concept to see how it works and how much it costs – because the county must pay to dispose of all the material that is brought in. The events started on the eastside because the illegal dumping problem is worst there. The plan is to have other events elsewhere but they won’t be arranged until it is seen how these first two work out.
