Palmdale, CA.-Former Palmdale city manager Jim Purtee passes away.


Jim was a dedicated public servant with over 32 years in local government. He began his career in local government at the City of Simi Valley in 1988. He made an impact in roles ranging from community services, affordable housing, planning, economic development and city administration until he became Simi Valley’s Assistant City Manager in 2012.


In October 2015, he became part of the Palmdale family as our city manager until his retirement from public service at the end of 2019. That same year, the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), the premier local government leadership and management organization, honored Jim for his significant contributions and achievements in advancing local government administration throughout his career. After his retirement, Jim continued to advise Library Systems & Services and Schneider Electric until his passing.


Jim was deeply committed to supporting military veterans, advocating for mental health programs and improving the well-being of local youth. He was a passionate volunteer, especially with veterans’ organizations, and served on the Board of Directors for Palmdale Regional Medical Center.


Jim was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart Tina for 33 years and a loving father to Erika, Elyssa, Ariana and Ethan. His legacy of service and dedication to others will be cherished by all who knew him, and his impact on his community and the people he served will never be forgotten.
