Lake Los Angeles – Stephen Sorensen Community Regional Park – On Saturday, January 6, 2024, the ladies with Wildlife and Wildflower Sanctuaries conducted the first in a series of guided walks of the sanctuaries around the Antelope Valley.

The ladies are with Wildlife and Wildflower Sanctuaries, County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation - Natural Areas Division. They have monthly planned nature walks during the next year to cover twelve (12) sanctuaries.
Tameobit, the newest sanctuary, which is adjacent to Sorensen Park, was first in line. The walk was to view the wildflowers in bloom at this time of year and hopefully see big horned owls which are active around the park right now. The owls are not always readily visible, but they are here and a thrill to see. In addition to walking and viewing, they picked up bags of trash which is a blemish and visual blight issue. The walk lasted approximately 2 hours.

The next walk will be the Carl O. Gerhardy Wildlife Sanctuary located at East Avenue N and 240th Street East in Hi Vista on Saturday. February 3 starting at 9:00am.
During the warmer months, four walks with be during evening hours. Refer to the schedule for dates and hours.
Hiking the first in a year’s guided sanctuary walks is Ingrid Hernandez-Goll, LLA Resident Chuck Tedeschi, LA County Sheriff Security Officer Jeff McKuen, Olivia Miseroy and Heather Driscoll.
