Electronic waste disposal resuming at Palmdale site.

The Antelope Valley Environmental Collection Center (AVECC) will resume Saturday, March 20, 2021, with COVID-19 safety precautions. We ask that all attendees wear a face covering (even if being vaccinated) and remain in their vehicles with windows closed, if possible. Please stay home if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, have been asked to quarantine, or have recently traveled internationally.

Event staff will only remove household hazardous and electronic waste from your trunk/pick-up bed.

To dispose of sharps, you will be required to exit your vehicle and dispose of them in the designated area.

The Antelope Valley Environmental Collection Center (AVECC) is a permanent facility offering a free and convenient method for residents of Los Angeles County to properly dispose of unwanted household hazardous and electronic waste (HHW/E-Waste), such as paint, solvents, chemicals, computers, batteries, cell phones, fluorescent lights, and other household hazardous materials.

To enhance public health and safety and keep the environment clean, the County of Los Angeles and Waste Management encourage residents to drop off HHW/E-Waste at the AVECC. This center is located at 1200 W. City Ranch Road in Palmdale and is open to the public on the first and third Saturday of each month, from 9 am until 3 pm. Business waste is not accepted at the center.

Background

In 2002, the Cities of Palmdale and Lancaster were successful in obtaining a $698,667 grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board to establish a permanent household hazardous waste center in the Antelope Valley. The purpose of the center, called the Antelope Valley Environmental Collection Center (AVECC), is to enhance the level of service to Antelope Valley residents by providing a convenient drop-off location for household hazardous waste and electronic waste. The grant funded the engineering, design, and construction costs of the AVECC. Since the award of the grant, the Cities of Lancaster and Palmdale requested the County's assistance in developing and operating the AVECC. As a result, the County, Cities of Palmdale and Lancaster and Waste Management, Inc., entered into a joint partnership for the financing, construction, and operation of AVECC. On December 2, 2004, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, City of Lancaster Vice Mayor Bishop Henry Hearns, City of Palmdale Mayor James Ledford, and Ray Andersen of Waste Management, Inc. joined together in a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of AVECC.
