Easter Bunny appears at Lake LA School
Lake Los Angeles – Much to the delight and cheers of the students at Lake Los Angeles School, Keppel School District Board Member Georgia Halliman escorted the Easter Bunny to lunch time at the school. It was the fifth Keppel District school the Easter Bunny visited during lunch time this week.
It was a surprise appearance by the Easter Bunny who hippity-hopped through the lunch lines with high-5’s and hugs for every student. The squeals easily hit high-C, there were tears of joy and smiles and laughter all around. Then Bunny visited each table with extra high-5’s, double high-5’s, hugs and blowing kisses with the students.
As the students filed through to receive their lunches, Mrs. Halliman handed them a zip-bag with Easter treats. She remarked, “Each child was so polite and said thank you and happy Easter to me.”
Lilian Arreguin, aka the Easter Bunny, Director of Food Service for the District said, “Lunch can be boring. I try to make it fun and exciting for the kids. I remember eating out of the trash … and here I am today. Poor people buy poor food, it’s a fact. I remember my first food experiences. I remember food that I ate for the first time. I think of myself and then think of my kids and where there is high need, what some parents cannot afford, so there is always fresh fruits and vegetables every day here.
"In 2017 I applied for the Community Eligibility Program (CEP), have reapplied and I am certain we will qualify again. I take those extra steps, so our kids get good food at no cost. With the shortages we are all experiencing, we have still made sure our kids have the food they need, and we are in compliance with State mandates.”
Ms. Arreguin plans special days with special food service such as Alphabet Bar with fruits and vegetables A-Z, Healthy Banana Split Bar, Strawberry Short Cake Bar and Harvest Food of the Month Bar.
“I have been here five years already! I recently moved here. I love my kids and can do more for them being local. I didn’t want to be a freeway director. I want to be close to my staff, my students, and my community.”
