Deputy-Involved Shooting in Littlerock Leaves San Bernardino County Detective Injured

PALMDALE, Calif. — Lancaster Sheriff’s Station Captains Joseph Fender and Paul Bartlett joined Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert G. Luna and representatives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department during an evening media briefing following a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy-involved shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon in the Littlerock area near Palmdale.

The incident happened shortly after 3:00 p.m. in a remote area of Littlerock, an unincorporated community in northern Los Angeles County.

According to authorities, detectives with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department were conducting an active investigation when an exchange of gunfire occurred.

A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s detective, a 12-year department veteran in his 30s, was struck in the lower ribcage during the shooting. The deputy was airlifted by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department helicopter to Antelope Valley Medical Center, where officials said the deputy is in stable condition and receiving treatment.

The suspect involved in the shooting was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity or additional details regarding the investigation that led detectives to the location.

During the media briefing, officials expressed appreciation to Antelope Valley Medical Center for the exceptional care being provided to the injured deputy and for the hospital’s continued support of law enforcement and first responders.

Because the incident occurred within Los Angeles County, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Several individuals who were present at the scene have been detained for questioning as detectives continue to gather evidence.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
