Palmdale, CA – To help residents save water, Palmdale Water District (PWD) will hold a composting workshop from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Legacy Commons, 930 E. Avenue Q-9, Palmdale.

The FREE Water-Wise Workshop: Composting event is being hosted by PWD, Los Angeles County Public Works and the City of Palmdale. It will feature Erin Harris, L.A. County Public Works Smart Gardening Instructor. She will teach the basics of backyard composting, water-wise gardening, worm composting, grass-cycling and edible gardening.

“We are excited to be working with the county and city on this great event for our community,” said PWD Resource and Analytics Supervisor Claudia Bolanos. “Composting is an easy and smart way to save water and help the environment.”

Compost, which is recycled organic matters such as food scraps, can

be turned into fertilizer and help reduce water used for trees and plants. The compost turned fertilizer reduces irrigation needs by improving the soil’s ability to absorb water.

Attendees will be eligible to win a composting starter kit, and there will be composting kits for purchase.

Since 1918, the Palmdale Water District has provided high-quality water at a reasonable cost. We pride ourselves on providing great customer care; advocating for local water issues that help our residents; educating the community on water-use efficiency; and leading our region in researching and implementing emerging technologies that increase operational efficiency.
