PALMDALE, CA — The City of Palmdale is inviting residents to participate in a new online survey to provide input on the themes and imagery for upcoming mural projects at Melville J. Courson Park and this year’s Antelope Valley Walls mural program, an international initiative featuring local and global artists. Public art plays a vital role in shaping Palmdale’s visual identity by celebrating local character, honoring history and creating vibrant expressions rooted in a strong sense of place.

“These projects are more than just paint on a wall in our City. They are a reflection of who we are as a community,” said Mayor Eric Ohlsen. “We’ve previously celebrated our City’s aerospace legacy, cultural diversity and desert landscape. Now we want to give every resident a voice in shaping the artwork that will define our public spaces for years to come by sharing the stories, symbols and themes that matter most to them. Everyone can help ensure our murals truly represent Palmdale’s evolving identity and the values that we hold dear.”

Palmdale’s Public Art program has transformed walls and public spaces into canvases that capture the City’s heritage. The new survey aims to discover what resonates with residents today and what stories they want told through the next generation of murals.

Among the questions, residents will be asked about the values and themes they want explored and what makes Palmdale feel like home to them. Participants can suggest colors, symbols and imagery they believe capture the City’s character, as well as specific places, events or people they would like represented.

“This initiative offers a meaningful opportunity for residents to contribute their vision for artwork that embodies authentic themes for our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Pro Tem Austin Bishop. “I invite everyone to share what makes Palmdale special to them, so our artists can reflect that in our upcoming murals.”

The survey opens Tuesday, Jan. 20, and will remain open through Thursday, March 5, at www.CityofPalmdaleCA.gov/PublicArt.
