City of Palmdale Secures Grant for Sustainable Initiatives

The City of Palmdale proudly announces its successful acquisition of a nearly $200,000 grant from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program. This significant funding showcases the City’s leadership in innovating environmental initiatives, setting a remarkable example for communities nationwide.

“The EECBG program channels federal resources directly to cities like Palmdale to cut carbon emissions and support energy efficiency upgrades,” said Mayor Austin Bishop. “We’re excited to deploy these funds for the benefit of our community as we progress toward a more sustainable future.”

Palmdale will use the grant to launch two impactful initiatives: The “Your Ride is EPIC” program will distribute plug-in and wall-mounted electric vehicle chargers to eligible households that apply. Supported by an additional $100,000 grant from theAntelope Valley Air Quality Management District, these chargers will be available until funds are depleted.

The second initiative aligns with Palmdale’s ambitious mission to transform the City’s municipal fleet to zero emissions by 2035. A portion of the grant funding will be allocated to create a detailed roadmap for the project. Palmdale will also install microgrid-enabled support infrastructure at the City’s maintenance yard.

“With this grant, we are one step closer to achieving our clean energy goals,” said Mayor Pro Tem Richard J. Loa. “The City of Palmdale is committed to providing a sustainable future for our residents, and these grants help us get there without putting the financial burden on our taxpayers.”

The City looks forward to the positive impacts these energy efficiency projects will have on both residents and the environment.

About the EECBG Program

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program is specifically crafted to aid states, local governments, and Tribes in implementing strategies geared towards reducing energy consumption, cutting fossil fuel emissions, and enhancing overall energy efficiency. Additionally, the program aligns with the Biden-Harris Administration’s Justice40 Initiative, directing eligible governments to allocate 40% of overall benefits from EECBG-funded programs and projects to disadvantaged communities that often bear the burdens of energy challenges or are left behind in the transition to clean energy. Palmdale proudly stands as one of over 2,700 recipients benefiting from the $430 million funding allocation.
