Lancaster, CA.-The City of Lancaster’s IMPACT Program has been awarded the 2025 California Park & Recreation Society (CPRS) Award of Excellence in the Community Impact category, recognizing the program’s role in developing youth leaders and strengthening the Lancaster community.

Presented annually, the CPRS Awards of Excellence honor standout programs and initiatives across California that elevate the quality of life through parks, recreation, and community services.

Out of 187 total award applications submitted statewide, only 57 programs were selected for recognition. Within the Community Impact category, Lancaster’s IMPACT Program stood out among 61 applicants and was the only program recognized in its population group.

Lancaster’s IMPACT Program, short for Building Leaders, Strengthening Community, is a youth leadership initiative designed for high school students in grades 9 through 12. The program provides mentorship, civic engagement opportunities, and hands-on experience through volunteer service across the City.

Participants apply to join the program each year and commit to completing 100 hours of community service. Upon completion, students receive a scholarship in recognition of their time, leadership, and dedication to serving others.

“This recognition reflects the kind of impact we strive to create in Lancaster, investing in our young people and giving them real opportunities to lead and serve,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “Programs like IMPACT are helping shape the next generation of leaders in our community.”

Through IMPACT, students gain real-world experience, build confidence, and develop a deeper connection to their community, while directly contributing to projects and initiatives that make a difference across Lancaster.

The CPRS Awards of Excellence celebrate innovation, leadership, and meaningful outcomes in communities throughout the state. Lancaster’s recognition in the Community Impact category highlights the City’s continued commitment to youth development and community-driven programming.
