Lancaster, CA. — The City of Lancaster is pleased to announce that the Avenue J Interchange Improvements Project is officially complete and now fully open to the public. The completion of this major infrastructure investment marks a significant milestone in the City’s ongoing efforts to enhance mobility, safety, and long-term economic growth.

Construction on the $35 million project began in October 2023 and was completed in February 2026 and was funded with Measure R funds by the City of Lancaster, Caltrans and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Granite Construction of Watsonville, California, served as the contractor for the project.

Improvements included two new ramps at Avenue J, widening of existing ramps, and traffic signal upgrades to improve circulation, safety, and overall mobility in the area.

“This project reflects our commitment to making the infrastructure improvements Lancaster needs to keep moving forward,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “Avenue J is a critical corridor for our community. Completing these upgrades strengthens access, improves safety, and supports the long-term growth and vitality of our City.”

With the project now complete, the interchange offers expanded capacity and smoother traffic flow, helping to reduce congestion and improve access for residents, businesses, and emergency services. The upgrades position the corridor to better serve the community’s current needs while accommodating future growth.

The Avenue J Interchange Improvements Project is part of Lancaster’s broader strategy to invest in infrastructure that enhances quality of life and promotes sustainable economic development.
