California ZEV Sales Near 18% of All New Car Sales in 2022

SACRAMENTO – California announced the latest data showing the state’s speedy acceleration toward zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) and ZEV market dominance:

  • 17.7% of all new cars sold in California are ZEVs, according to the California Energy Commission

    • The ZEV share of sales is up 42.7% from 2021 and 126.9% from 2020

    • Latest estimates show ZEV sales were 4.9% of all U.S. car sales in Q3 of 2021

  • 250,486 ZEV sales in California in 2022

  • 1,304,581 cumulative ZEV sales in California

  • 42.6% of ZEVs sold in the U.S. sold in California, based on estimates from Veloz

  • 79,023 shared electric vehicle chargers installed in California (both public and private)

  • Up to $9,500 in grants & rebatesavailable for low-income Californians
